Today’s post is on a foundation that has a very loyal following due to its apparently brilliant staying power, so I couldn’t resist trying this product out for myself, even though it has been reviewed many times before! However now that it has extended it’s shade count to 30 shades, it’s worth another look!
When I asked for help choosing the right colour, the lady at the Estee Lauder counter promptly whipped out a complicated colour chart that could be held over the skin to match the correct colour, and then she tried out three foundations and settled on shade Fresco 01 for me. I am quite difficult to colour match because I have a spray tan most weeks (I refuse to accept my pasty skin!) so the colour of my skin changes dramatically from the day after the tan to a week after!
This foundation claims to stay in place for 12 hours, yet feel lightweight and it has an SPF 10, which is important even in the winter for sun protection. The good news is, Estee Lauder have just this month extended the range to 30 shades, so you are sure to find a colour to suit you. The new chart has taken into account different tones (pinky, yellowy etc.) as well as how light/dark your skin is to get the most accurate colour match possible.
When I put some of the product on the back of my hand ready to be applied, it was a very watery consistency and I actually thought it looked a bit dark against my hand, but went ahead and applied it to my face anyway. I used a foundation brush to apply it to my face in circular motions – I found as the foundation spread across the skin the colour did blend in and match my skin tone.

I was impressed with the look of the foundation when it was on my skin – it just looked very natural and gave me a great complexion. I have tried this foundation out for a few days to test the real selling point of the foundation, its long-lasting properties! I leave home at 7:15am an don’t return home before 7pm, normally later in the day, so this was a real test of whether this foundation really did still look good after 12 hours! I have to say I was pretty impressed – it really did still look good when I got home every day, and that was even after being squashed against people in the tube and everything! If you are looking for a great long-lasting foundation, unsurprisingly this one is great for you.
It wasn’t my favourite in terms of the look of the skin, don’t get me wrong it looked great, I have just been spoiled by the many great foundations out there at the moment! Laura Mercier’s Silk Crème Foundation and the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat still come above this Estee Lauder offering for me, but if I knew I was going to have a reeeally long day, or maybe if I was going out in the evening to a club I would wear this for sure! I especially like the matte finish, sometimes radiant-look foundations end up looking shiny by the end of the day!
It is worth going to get one of these Double Wear Foundations because it is very useful at certain times, and it’s worth it just to see the complicated skin chart the assistant will pull out! Overall a very satisfying product that does what it says on the tin!
